Introduction

The NERO LARP Game System is a fantasy live action role playing (LARP) game. Take the NERO Tour Here!

This set of documents describes the Evendarr Royal Military and Marine concept. It is provided to help players and storywriters make use of this in game organization.

Any NERO Chapter can make use of the Evendarr Royal Marine concept; however, NERO Chapters with in-game locations bordered by the in-game ocean are more likely to see the Royal Marines.

The Evendarr Royal Navy and Marines are in-game organizations which are part of the NERO LARP Game System.

On the East Coast, half of the Kingdom of Evendarr sits on its border. In game, a group that is able to fight on land and sea would be integral to the security of the Kingdom.

The United States Marine ethos (Duty, Honor, Country) is valuable to civilians, both youth and adult, and we are proud to have it as one of the many backbones

Real History

Early History: The first documented use of marines as a class of trooper in a standing army belongs to the Greeks and Romans. While not adept at naval warfare, the Romans had the best land army of its time. After defeating the Greek phalanx on land, it turned its thoughts to operations on the sea. Two legions were raised from marine units by Nero in AD 66 or 67. Roman marines remained a part of Rome's force projection assets throughout the life of the empire, serving not only at sea, but along the Danube river as well. -- Paraphrased from Basic history of marines as a class of soldier

Royal Marines of England: "On the 28th October 1664 an Order-in-Council was issued calling for 1200 soldiers to be recruited for service in the Fleet, to be known as the Duke of York and Albany’s Maritime Regiment of Foot. As the Duke of York was The Lord High Admiral, it became known as the Admiral’s Regiment. The Regiment was paid by the Admiralty, it and its successors being the only long service troops in the 17th and 18th century navy." from A Short History of the Royal Marines

United States Marines: "On November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia passed a resolution stating that 'two Battalions of Marines be raised' for service as landing forces with the fleet.
