4163 (LC 350) Valerian Mir-Duin is born.
He is the only child of Orian and Imrilith Mir-Duin, Court Bard and Healer
respectively for the Barony of Dawyndriel under Akhmet Sakalid. Valerian takes
service in the Baronial Court.
4226 (LC 423/LT 1) Tari
Calrielle dies, and is succeeded by Aran Thloestel Ar-Din.
Baron Sakalid is devastated by his Queen’s
death, convinced that she passed into Autmennessiel (“Happiness Beyond Death”)
many years before her appointed time. There have been odd fluctuations in
Healing Magic in Quentari during this time though not in Celestial Magic, and
Akhmet believes that he must do everything he can to strengthen the powers of
Healers to successfully Resurrect their patients. Akhmet Sakalid builds a
research tower deep in the Dawyndriel Forest and dedicates himself to refining
the magic as his duty to his people.
4258 (LT 33) Valerian Mir-Duin becomes a noble at the tender age of 95
years.
Valerian’s skills prove to be invaluable to the Herundor, and he becomes
Akhmet’s most trusted confidante. Baron Sakalid is an Earth Scholar - the
Arch-Wizard of Birth & Life. Valerian is proud to be associated with such a
distinguished Elf, and swears an oath of personal service to his Liege. Their
collaboration over several decades brings many honors to both, and they are
frequently sought after by the Wizards of the Elven Institute of Learning &
Magick at Helevorn as well as at the Royal Court in Din-Oth.
4323 (LT 97) As time passes and Earth
Magic continues to wax and wane, Akhmet’s dedication to successful Resurrection
becomes an obsession. Valerian Mir-Duin remains faithful to his Lord, but is
beginning to worry about some of Akhmet’s methods. He tries to warn the Baron,
but Akhmet refuses to listen. Finally one awful night, the Baron’s experiments
go terribly awry. Waves of Chaos encompass the tower, and everyone within it is
Transformed into gruesome hybrids of Living and Undead - including Valerian and
the Baron. Horrified by what he has done, Akhmet restores everyone, seals his
notes, scrolls and components into the tower, and refuses to practice his
Wizardly skills for the remainder of his life. From that day on, he will cast
only Battle Magic. For Valerian, it is too late. Having tried for years to warn
the Baron that his path was straying into necromancy, the young Lord can no
longer serve the Liege who betrayed him. After a fierce argument, Akhmet
refuses to release Valerian from his oaths. Declaring that the Herundor
foreswore himself with his casting of the Black Arts, Valerian departs Quentari
forever, taking several grief-stricken allies and their families with him.
4323 (LT 97) Heru
Valerian Mir-Duin leaves the service of Herundor Akhmet Sakalid of Dawyndriel
and travels far to the north of Quentari. He stops at the Royal Court and makes
a full report to the Court Healer. With Aran Thloestel’s reluctant blessing, he
sets out to found a new Quentari Settlement far to the north. Once outside the
protective borders of his homeland, Valerian soon learns that in order to
survive in his new land, he will require the assistance of the only other
powerful creatures in the area: the Folke. Thinking to form an alliance with
the Seelie, he attempts to gain their protection. But the taint of Chaos upon
his Spirit is noticed by one of the Dark Fey - an UnSeelie, who manages to
entrap him. He remains in his tortured form until he is freed by new settlers
to the area now known as Avendale. Valerian takes the surname “Clearbrook”,
which translates to “Mir-Duin” (“Jewel River”) in Quentari.
